Sector Hampton Roads is a Coast Guard base located in Portsmouth, Virginia near the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. It is is dedicated to the Hampton Roads / Chesapeake Bay area and extends approximately 200 miles out into the Atlantic Ocean. The Sector Hampton Roads supports the Commandant’s six strategic goals of maritime safety, maritime mobility, maritime security, national defense, protection of natural resources, and most recently, homeland defense and its main purpose is to ensure the safety and security of the oceans, coastal areas and marine transportation system within America’s Mid-Atlantic Region. In 2009 the Sector Hampton Roads saved 155 lives, rescued over 2000 people and saved over 53 Million dollars in property. This entire area of Virginia is also home to other military bases including the United States Navy, Air Force, NASA, Marine Corp and the Army.

Hampton Roads, also known as “The Worlds Greatest Natural Harbor”, is the main location of Sector Hampton Roads Coast Guard base and is noted for having the largest concentration of military bases and facilities of any metropolitan area in the world. The year round ice-free harbor is a major contributing factor to the booming economy and stability of the area. That coupled with the many other communities and cities, the rich history and the extensive waterways have led to growth and expansion even in these tough economical times. Hampton Roads has hundreds of miles of waterfront property and sandy beaches in Hampton Roads making it a desired location to vacation and live. Many of the military soldiers and personnel choose to stay after moving here.
